Public Service Bicycle Works is the product of 15 years of obsessing over riding, fixing, building, and racing bicycles. When he was 12 years old Haegan was finally tall enough to ride the forgotten 70s Fuji Royale II road bike in the basement. He was immediately hooked. Within a year, he was piecing together a new bike from parts off Craigslist and building his first set of wheels. They fell apart pretty quickly but he learned a lot on the rebuild. As soon as they would let him, he had a job at the bike shop, and the rest is history.
In the years since, Haegan has fixed more bikes than he can count, built hundreds of custom wheels, built and powdercoated frames, lined up for a couple hundred race starts, and ridden in 30 states and 19 countries. Through all of these experiences (and countless hours of research from the most mundane to the most obscure bike topics), Haegan has cultivated the knowledge and skill to guide riders to the solutions that make sense for them and their riding. The goal is to make sure riders are in the shop often because they want to be, not because they need to be. After all, we would all rather be out riding.
Autumn is the other half of Public Service. While she may not be spinning the wrenches, she is always behind the scenes keeping things running smoothly. Autumn started riding when Haegan convinced her to spend 5 months after highschool touring across Europe by bike. Autumn has dabbled in most racing disciplines and has been working on becoming a CritDawg with Souplesse Velo this season. As someone who came to cycling from a non-athlete background, Autumn is excited to share her love for the sport with new riders and help people feel confident to try something new.
Most weekends you will find us somewhere around the midwest racing bikes with our team, Souplesse Velo. Souplesse Velo was founded to serve as a community for new and experienced riders to grow in the sport. We believe that strength is not skill, but skill is strength. In our first season our 12 rider team raced over 150 races in 9 states. Follow the team on instagram to see what we are up to!
